Getting no fault insurance can vary a lot in price. I would recommend researching as much as you can about car insurance. For example, you can often opt for simply storage insurance coverage and pay as little as $20 per month.

You should be made aware of New York’s requirements for auto insurance. First, insurance coverage must be at least $25,000/50,000 for injury, $50,000/100,000 for death and $10,000 for property damage. New York is considered a no fault state. Remember, even if your car is not being used your insurance must remain in effect as long as it’s registration is valid. Motorcycles don’t have this requirement, as different insurance laws apply here. I would recommend looking into storage insurance if your car is only being used during the summer months.

You insurance carrier must be a New York insurance company. Using a an out-state company is not valid and your insurance will not be accepted is you are involved in accident. Upon receiving your insurance coverage your carrier is required to provide 2 insurance cards to you that will have a bar code strip on the back of it. You will need this when going to the DMV. The DMV will not accept any out of state insurance documents.

Finding an insurance company. This isn’t always an easy task to undertake. I would go with the one that you feel the most comfortable with. Response time to replace your vehicle should be important to you, if you happen to ever have to deal with that.

By: Frank Merrill

What are some of the California auto insurance laws that CA residents need to know? California is a tort law state for auto insurance, which basically means you can sue the other party if you are injured in a car accident. There are several other car insurance laws that consumers in the Golden State should be aware of before looking for car insurance.

In California, the law requires you to carry at least liability coverage in the limits of 15/30/5, which means:

$15,000 bodily injury coverage per person hurt in a car accident

$30,000 bodily injury coverage per accident in total

$5,000 coverage for property damage liability

This coverage is to protect others in case of an accident where you are deemed to be at fault. However, the minimum limits are very low and are unlikely to be sufficient to cover the expenses of a serious car accident. In this case you could be personally sued for the excess. For this reason it makes sense to carry higher limits of liability coverage.

There is a California which law requires insurers to give the lowest price to the consumer that he or she is eligible for. All companies operating in the state must have a toll-free number and/or a web site with quote capabilities available to consumers in order to meet the requirements of this law.

CA car insurance laws state that when you purchase liability coverage the insurer must offer you uninsured motorist coverage. If you decide against it, you must actually sign a form stating that you have declined this coverage.

Now that you are fully aware of the California auto insurance laws that you need to know, you are ready to start shopping for California car insurance. You can get started quickly and easily by using an online quote tool. In no time, you’ll be comparing a variety of quotes from top CA insurers.

By: James J.

Purchasing car insurance is a difficult process. Not only do you need to wade through dozens of different offers to find the right one, but you also need to make sure that you thoroughly read the fine print in order to make sure that you are not getting ripped off by the insurance company. It is indeed a major decision in your life and for that reason it is a decision that you should think about thoroughly before you make it.

While everyone thinks about the different types of car insurance options available to them, that is not the type of thinking that is being discussed in this article. Rather, the type of thinking that is being discussed has to do with making sure that your car insurance covers all of your needs. You can be the best at weeding out bad offers, but if the final offer does not cover everything you need for your insurance then you are going to be in pretty bad shape if you don’t have that realization before you make the purchase.

A Car Insurance Checklist

Because of this, one of the first things that you should do when considering the purchase of a car insurance policy is to generate a car insurance checklist. This is simply a list created on the computer or on a piece of paper. On the list you will write down all of the different things that you need your car insurance to do for you. When the list is finished, you should look it over and make revisions, removing points that are redundant or adding ones that you didn’t initially think about. Do this a few times to make sure that you have a truly accurate list and when you are done you should have the perfect model of what your ideal insurance plan would look like. To help you get started, some obvious checklist items are listed below.

Legal Requirements

The first item on your checklist should have to do with the legal requirements of insurance in the area in which you live. Different places have different car insurance requirements. In the United States for example, car insurance is regulated on a state level and each state has specific minimum coverage amounts for the amount of vehicle injury, the amount of personal injury and the amount of personal fatality coverage that a person needs to have.

All of the car insurance plans are technically required to be in line with those state requirements as a minimum matter, but it is also true that insurance companies will sometimes try to skirt these requirements and sell packages to people that are not legal in terms of the amount of coverage that they offer. For that reason, it never hurts to keep these legal requirements in mind when you are checking out the different insurance plans available in your area.

Personal Requirements

Personal requirements have to do with auto insurance values that you would feel comfortable with. A lot of people never truly figure out what their personal requirements are when it comes to insurance because they do not like thinking about the unpleasant things that might happen to them when they are driving their car. While it is certainly understandable that you would not want to think about such things, you need to get over it in order to make sure that you get the best insurance plan possible.

So, right now, think about the worst thing possible happening to you in your car. Then, think about the type of coverage that you would like to have in a perfect world. Add this coverage as a goal under the personal requirements note in your checklist and then continue to add new points to the checklist using these two as a basis.

By: Amy Nutt

You can buy car insurance even if you don’t own a vehicle. This type of coverage is known as non owner auto insurance. So why would you consider this?

When To Buy Non Owner Coverage

You may want to consider buying this type of coverage in a situation where you are living in a city and rely on public transportation most of the time but are renting or borrowing a vehicle from someone often. You want to have adequate insurance protection if an accident occurs to pay for injuries or damage to property.

What Happens After An Accident

If an accident occurs while you are behind the wheel of a borrowed or rented car, the owner’s insurance policy would be in effect. He or she would be responsible for any damages owing over the policy limits. As the driver at the time of the accident, you may be faced with legal action from the owner or the insurance company to recover the money paid out after the accident. Buying a non owner car insurance policy will protect your assets.

The Cost

In a situation where you are renting a vehicle often, it may be less expensive for you to buy your own insurance than to get coverage through the rental company each time. You also have the added assurance that you are covered for every vehicle you are driving, not just the one you have rented.

Another scenario where buying a non owner auto insurance policy may make sense is when you drive a company car for work. You will be covered under the employer’s insurance policy, but how many people would ask how much coverage the company’s insurance policy provides when they get behind the wheel of a company car.

How To A Find Non Owner Car Insurance Policy

You look for non owner car insurance in the same way as you shop for other car insurance coverage. You can look online for a company that offers this type of coverage and request a quote, or contact an independent insurance agent who can get quotes for you.

Family or friends may be able to help you find non owner car insurance coverage as well. Ask around to see if anyone knows of a company you can contact to get this type of protection.

Compare Non Owner Car Insurance Quotes Online

Once you have quotes in hand, you need to go over them very thoroughly to make sure you understand the policy provisions. Every auto insurance company will have use different language in its policies and it’s important to go over each clause so you understand exactly what you are getting.

Pay special attention to the policy’s exclusions as well. No policy covers all situations, and you don’t want to assume that you have protection only to find out after an accident that you don’t.

By: James J.
